Postpartum Doula Support

There is a Special Doula for Every Family...

Choosing a doula is a very personal decision. Not just anyone is a good fit.

Trained specifically as a newborn specialist, I will nurture the mother by offering practical assistance as well as emotional support thus empowering new moms to confidently meet the challenges of this new chapter in her life.  Your postpartum doula serves as your live "Baby Manual."

A postpartum doula is a mentor who will answer questions and provide assurance in a gentle, non-judgmental way. Postpartum doulas bring the following benefits:

  • Easier transition into parenthood
  • Greater breastfeeding success
  • More self-confidence in parenting skills
  • Less postpartum depression

My Role as Your Postpartum Doula

My role as a postpartum doula caregiver is to educate with evidence based knowledge and to provide nurturing and supportive help for the entire family during the healing process of the mother, as well as, to assist as their roles change with the birth of a new child. Mothers and fathers both need postpartum support as they re-define their new roles as mother and father.

  • The postpartum doula mothers the new mother emotionally and physically.

  • As your postpartum doula I bring back thehonor and care the new mother deserves.

  • A doula gives special recognition and rest helping to speed mothers recovery.

  • Extra hands free up more time for sharing of responsibilities.

  • More time for bonding with baby and rekindling mom and dads relationships.

  • Doulas are trained to provide breastfeeding and bottle feeding support.

  • The positive reinforcement of a postpartum doula equals less anxiety and stress, thus also adds to speed mothers recovery time.

A Judgement Free Recovery Period

This can be one of your families most exciting, yet emotional fill time in your lives.

Everybody experiences the postpartum period differently, therefore, all feelings and emotions are acceptable and safe to express, thus will not be judged. My role with each family will vary as there is no precise time frame of how long your postpartum support will be needed. This will depend on your family and what other support systems such as friends and relatives ability to give the gift of time and your comfort zone with them. A general time frame may be 2 to 4 hours per day for 4 to 6 week following mother discharge, if a hospital delivery.

To Facilitate and To Serve

My job as your postpartum doula is to enhance communication both within the family and with other support professionals. As a doula I may make referrals to quality care providers such as a lactation consultant, pediatrician, counselor and support groups when necessary.

As your doula, I will provide the care and assistance to ease your familythrough the postpartum period with nurturing care and education. I do not come in as a nanny or housekeeper and take over.

It is my job to educate and assist the family by offering education, companionship and nonjudgmental support during the postpartum fourth trimester, assisting with newborn care, family adjustment, meal preparation and light household tidying, and offering evidence-based information on infant feeding, emotional and physical recovery from birth, infant soothing and coping skills for new parents and makes appropriate referrals when necessary.

My Fees

Per diem, I charge $40 per hour. There is no minimum.

I have found that families and women who have opted for natural birth generally have a wonderful birth experience and thus do not need "long term" doula (meaning, doula care is not continuously necessary for a full 12 weeks postpartum.

A few short visits postpartum to care for and nurture the mother and family is sufficient. As such, postpartum packages are available to families as follows:
